The Federal Lock and Dam at Troy, NY, 134 NM above the Battery in New York City, marks the head of tidal waters of the Hudson River. Heading North on the Hudson River out of New York City it will be the first lock encountered when bound for the New York State Canal System.
Many mistakenly believe that this lock is part of the New York State Canal System (Erie Canal). However, it actually belongs to the United States and is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
